Balquhidder Braes Scottish Holiday Park - Walking

Walking

We are right on the Rob Roy Walking trail and there are numerous other self-guided walks (for your safety please let us know where you are going and when you expect to be back – just in-case of any problems). As well as easy walks adjacent to the park there are many more challanging close by. For example in Balquhidder Glen we have Creag an Tuirc

This is an easy walk affording views out of all proportion with the ease of the walk.

The walk starts behind Balquhidder church and initially follows the track signed to Kirkton Glen. Right turn behind the church and over a stile to climb up a rather steep wpe10.jpg (14124 bytes)track through the woods to the end of the woods. Shortly after the woods, the track forks near some enclosed buildings where you take the right fork. After about 400M a sign on the right  points to a narrow path leading through a dike and onwards to the summit where you'll find a cairn to the memory of the clan McLaren. The view to the west now is stunning with the whole of Balquhidder Glen exposed beyond Loch Voil and little Loch Doine.

Rob Roy's first married home ( Monachyle Taurach ) is on the south shore at the narrows between the two lochs. The only real option now is to return by the same path although you can follow an ill defined path to the east which leads to a point further east on the forest road

Also Glenogle

Description:

Distance 10m/l6k Gentle ascents/descents Forest track

On the road west from Killin go over the bridge at the Dochart Falls, continue west then up the track between the two bungalows at the war memorial and turn right on the old railway line. Follow this until you reach the spot where the tracks cross and this time go straight ahead. Continue along here through the deer fence   and you eventually come to the A85 which you cross. Stay on the track until you reach the old railway platform at Killin Branch junction.
Turn left now and follow the old line up to the cottages at the top of Glenogle. Cross the main road here and through the deer fence where you can now follow the track all the way back to Killin.

For more challenging walks we have a number of Munros around us including Ben Vorlich, Stuc-a-chroin, Ben Lawers, Ben Ledi.

Ben Vorlich is situated behind the park and can be accessed from the South Loch Earn Road 1 mile away from the park.

Park where you can without obstructing turning or passing places then walk to the bridge at Edinample castle and mausoleum. Take the farm road to the west side of the Falls of Edinample. Reaching a game fence, keep to the left (don't cross the fence), and continue up the Glenample farm road watching for notices bearing instructions for walkers - follow these instructions to avoid the farm yards and regain the forestry track beyond the farm.

A notice beside the forest road points walkers through the trees beside a burn to the hill tracks. On reaching a hill road, follow it uphill to a gate in the deer fence which may be avoided by going to the right of the gate to find a stile. Continue up the hill road until it peters out, then continue on a poor footpath. The footpath eventually disappears, but continue up toward the head of Corrie Fuadarach, slowly veering to the south to intercept a faint track at about NN620183.

To tackle Ben Vorlich first, cross over the faint track, and continue up the heather covered slopes for about another 150 yards to find another track on the bealach. Turn approximately NE at this point to follow the track to the top of Ben Vorlich.

We can happily point you in the right direction for the many other walks in the area so you can fully enjoy the dramatic landscape in which we are situated.
